Over the next 15 months, New Leaf Workplace Wellbeing will be delivering mental health training and workplace wellbeing support to small and medium-sized businesses across Somerset.
This work is supported by the Contain Outbreak Management Fund (COMF) allocated by the Department for Health and Social Care in Somerset. The investment has been made for mental health support in recognition of the many ways the pandemic has challenged our mental wellbeing. It supports public health activities directly related to the COVID-19 response including, but not limited to, those breaking the chain of transmission and those supporting groups who have been disproportionately impacted.
Our team will be working with Somerset business owners to help develop long-term healthy workplace practices that encourage employees to open up and manage their emotional health needs together.
Sign up for our newsletter to be notified when these training sessions are made available! You’ll receive a free checklist when you sign up outlining the ways you can boost employee wellbeing over the festive period.
Why should you apply for workplace wellbeing training?
There are many reasons why you should sign up for our newsletter on workplace wellbeing training sessions.
As we grow more open to actively tackling mental health as a society, it’s important to move with the times and reduce the age-old stigma attached to mental ill health within the workplace.
Use your position as a business owner to embrace opportunities for professional growth by building your knowledge and enhancing your interpersonal skills so you can guide your employees towards the right support for them.
Our sessions, courses and resources encourage a deeper understanding of mental health and the many factors that can influence and impact our wellbeing, so you can spot the signs that something isn’t quite right. We’ll give you the confidence to step in, reassure your team and support them as they navigate change and complex experiences.
Who is eligible for our Somerset wellbeing services?
We’ll deliver mental health support services to organisations within the following priority industries: visitor economy, arts and entertainment, construction, health and social care, and farming and agriculture. Involved in one of those industries? Sign up for our newsletter!
50% of the businesses we’ll be working with will have less than 10 employees, including micro and sole traders.
25% of eligible businesses will have between 10 and 50 employees, and the final 25% will consist of organisations with over 50 employees.
What mental health support will you have access to?
You’ll have access to a downloadable Workplace Wellbeing pack that links to relevant mental health resources.
Each pack also includes a QR code that shares industry-specific mental health information, including the contact details for relevant Somerset mental health services and access to sector-specific downloads. We are aiming to have this in place by the end of January 2022.
We’ll also be facilitating places on the following courses across the five sectors:
- 2-day Mental Health First Aid course (x3)
- Half Day Mental Health First Aid course (x4)
- Certified 3-hour ‘Continuing Professional Development’ course (x5) delivered with local Chambers
- Wellbeing @ Work workshops (x5 for 100 participants)
- Outdoor wellbeing walk (x1)
All you need to do is sign up for our newsletter and we’ll let you know when our workplace wellbeing training sessions are live!
How will New Leaf be providing mental health support in Somerset?
We’ll be tailoring our mental health support to each sector to achieve the best results, help you to communicate effectively and reach as many individuals as possible.
We don’t mean to nag but have you signed up for our newsletter yet?!
Visitor economy
We’re working with Visit Somerset and Simply Sig to distribute our Workplace Wellbeing pack across Somerset venues and workplaces within the tourism, hospitality and events sector.
Arts and entertainment
We’ll be engaging with the local arts sector to deliver short workshops on managing mental health. We’ll be using a mind-body approach, exploring the many ways you can boost your mental wellbeing through physical exercise before sharing practical tools to help you manage your emotional wellbeing.
New Leaf will also be holding a wellbeing walk, incorporating activities that reinforce trust, encourage teamwork and help participants embrace an open approach to wellness.
Construction
Plasterers, road workers, self-employed labourers and individuals on temporary contracts are often the hardest to reach and the most vulnerable.
Across five days, we’ll visit as many Somerset construction sites as possible. We’ll deliver a direct, on-site approach to mental health support through food vans where construction workers will be able to access information about the Construction Industry Helpline. We’ll also assist individuals in downloading our free, industry-specific mental health resources.
We’re linking up with existing campaigns to build much-needed wellness infrastructure within the construction industry and to promote open communication so we can reach as many people as possible.
Health and social care
We will deliver relevant training to health and social care professionals and share the Workplace Wellbeing pack through the Somerset Micro-Provider Network and the Registered Care Providers Association in Taunton.
New Leaf will also engage with relevant Facebook groups to encourage participation from local health practitioners.
Farming and agriculture
In response to our existing network’s call for shorter training sessions, we’ll deliver half-day courses to individuals and organisations within the farming and agriculture industry.
We’ll also be visiting local garden centres and plant nurseries to distribute our Workplace Wellbeing packs.
