HR Support / Family Problems

The stresses and strains of modern life put a great deal of pressure on families and the different relationships within them. Family problems are not unusual, but the main problem is that everyone in the home is affected, with tension often branching out into the workplace and/or schools etc.

Family problems include frequent arguments between members, poor communication and over dependency on a partner or other family members. The combination of one or more of these can create a very destructive environment within the home. It is important, especially where children are involved, to deal with problems and resolve issues, learning to create a more positive and harmonious atmosphere.

It’s hard to separate out home from work and it makes good business sense for employers to acknowledge the role they can play in assisting their employees through the upheaval of personal problems. An employer cannot, for example, ignore the impact of a relationship breakdown on the well-being and productivity of their employee and co-workers.

The counsellors at New Leaf can help your employees examine their family situation, identify problems and explore new strategies to deal with tensions and stress. This can provide a wider perspective of family dynamics and allows the individual space to see how best to respond to each family member, taking into account the issues each has to address and helping, perhaps, the whole family work towards communal goals. We don’t offer ‘couple counselling’ but we can work with individuals who are facing family problems, supporting them to move forward positively, for the benefit of everyone in the home and beyond.

“Counselling at New Leaf made me realise that I am not responsible for how other people feel and I am not responsible for the way they act towards me when they are angry, upset or abusive. They choose to act that way. I can choose to respond in a different way. Facing up to me was the most difficult bit! In terms of change – understanding myself, starting to be truthful about how I feel about other people, instead of hiding my feelings just to get along. I experienced being relaxed and supported (both in and out of sessions). I never felt pushed but experienced honesty.”
